Spelman College Fall 2024 Datathon

The IMLS-funded TALENT Network was pleased to sponsor its first Student Datathon at Spelman College focusing on the computational treatments of the Legacies of Black History.

Spelman College: Cosby 335 & Computer AND Information Sciences classroom

Students were invited to participate in a hands-on datathon, hosted by: Spelman College Archives & Computer and Information Sciences AND GeorgiaTech Libraries.  

The event featured three one-hour sessions on:

  • Legacy of Slavery Manumission records using Interactive dashboards
  • Legacy of Slavery Domestic Traffic Ads using ChatGPT
  • Urban Renewal using GenerativeAI

with presentations, hands-on interactions, and discussions, all meant to deepen data science, computational and AI skills and to prepare students and educators to navigate the future of archives.
