Piloting an Online Collaborative Network for Integrating
Computational Thinking into
Library and Archival (Science) Education (Research) & Practice
The University of Maryland iSchool’s Advanced Information Collaboratory (AIC) is piloting an online national collaborative network of educators and practitioners to enable the sharing and dissemination of computational case studies and lesson plans through an open source, cloud-based interactive platform based on Jupyter Notebooks.
Jupyter is self-described as a free, open-source, interactive web tool known as a computational notebook, which researchers can use to combine software code, computational output, explanatory text and multimedia resources in a single document. We are adapting this tool to Library and Archives instruction.
This project focuses on Master’s-level students in order to target the professional development of future practitioners across the nation. The pilot network aims at supporting faculty and students by building a community of educators and practitioners, dedicated to modernizing archival and library education. The ultimate goal is to contribute to the development of faculty and library digital leaders.
